They have a deep connection to the natural world, especially forests. Their love for nature shines through in their grand architectural designs and city locations, with many being in deeply forested areas.

History

The Elves awoke in Velthadren at the beginning of the world — their creation story, Erui Galad ("First Light"), tells of life beginning in a single flash of brilliance. During The Age of Colonization they migrated west from Velthadren into Hallenburg, eventually reaching as far as the isle of Brattan. Elven civilization has weathered every age since with its defining virtue: continuity. The living archives of Velthadren hold records reaching back nearly to the First Light, and elven builders still maintain structures their great-great-grandparents raised.

Elven history's great stain is Gambrard Tirsilyn, the Velthadrei alchemist who invented Stone-Turning in 506 DC and created the profane crystal Fellglass — a name elves generally decline to say aloud.

Current Day

Elves make up the second largest population group in Ardelûn, second only to Humans. Most live throughout Northern Etheranya and Brattan, with substantial communities in Hallenburg, Layocana, and every major city of the world.

Aefar Canawn Calendar

The Elves base their calendar on the number of years since the First Times, when the world began. While it is not perfectly accurate, theirs is the count that reaches closest to the origin point of Ardelûn. All the years since then are Aefar Canawn (AC), reckoned from approximately 4,122 BDC. The present year 1,436 DC ≈ 5,558 AC. Their calendar runs approximately 391 years ahead of the Dwarven Home Reckoning Calendar and 4,122 years ahead of Dimedo's Calendar.
