Overview
Umbranite appears as a deep, dark blue primarily with swirlings of dark purple and small streaks of green inside it — but this colouration can only be seen as a slight glow in pure darkness. When Umbranite is exposed to light, it appears a murky, thick black, seeming to be a dense void of light rather than a colour at all.
Origin & Theories
Because of this unique light-absorbing property, it is believed that Umbranite is formed in places deep within Ardelûn where no light exists. However, no specific locations where Umbranite naturally forms have yet been discovered. Specimens are found, but their source remains a mystery.
Many believe superstitiously that, because of its dark nature, Umbranite originates from the Shadow Realm. Whether this is genuine folk wisdom or superstition born of fear and misunderstanding is a matter of ongoing scholarly debate. What is certain is that Umbranite does not behave like any other crystal when studied under standard crystallomantic methods.
