History

The Drakar are the creations of ancient dragons from long ago. They didn't originate on Ardelûn as other species did, but were created by immensely intelligent dragons that ruled Ardelûn during the days of Proterra.

In the 22nd century BDC, an adult dragon known as Zorikal began taking prisoners of the Krynn and performing experiments on them. His goal was to design a loyal, intelligent servant species that could carry out the will of dragons. Recognizing that dragons, though powerful, were few in number and not suited to managing the growing populations of lesser races, Zorikal sought to craft a new kind of being—one with the strength and longevity of dragon blood, but the adaptability and form of mortals. Most of his early experiments were failures - the test subjects died or were transformed into the savage reptilian Behemoths creatures that continue to roam Hixondraconia today.

However, in 2172 BDC, one of his experiments was somewhat successful. Using his own blood as a catalyst, he was able to create the first 'Drakar' - a new type of species. The Drakar appeared like a dragon, but was similar in size and makeup to the Krynn, having still the same humanoid shape, but with draconic scales, a tail, and other features. The Drakar became functional as a slave to do Zorikal's bidding. Eventually, Zorikal created more Drakar in the same way and they continued to populate and grow in number, being slaves to Zorikal. When Zorikal passed away in 1080 BDC, the Drakar were divided. After being slaves to Zorikal for 1,092 years after their initial creation, some Drakar used the opportunity to escape to Gondalia and start their own life, without draconic control. However, a number of Drakar decided to remain with the dragons, committing themselves to the service of them.

Current Day

In the current day, most Drakar are free beings that primarily live throughout Gondalia and North Gondalavon. A large community of Drakar live in Hanbo now, and are involved there in all but the highest political offices.

Some Drakar still live as slaves to the dragons on the island of Hixondraconia, although the land is not habited by any other peoples, and therefore it's difficult to estimate their true number.
