Overview

The Krynn are green-skinned humanoids with shocks of vivid orange hair, sturdy builds, and broad, friendly features. Their coloring is the most striking of any of the world's peoples, and they are entirely used to being asked about it.

Racial Trait

Battle Rage — Once per turn, after taking any damage, the next attack you make with a weapon deals 1 additional damage dice.

The Green and the Orange

Why are the Krynn green? Scholars have theories; the Krynn have shrugs. The prevailing naturalist view is that Krynn skin hosts a symbiotic microflora — the same family of organisms that greens Sparenda's fens — which supplements their vitality and explains both their coloring and their legendary hardiness against hunger and toxin (a Krynn can thrive on a diet that would kill a human, provided there's sunlight with it). The orange hair is held to come from pigments in the traditional fen diet, on the evidence that Krynn raised abroad trend duller copper. Krynn tradition offers a tidier answer: the first Krynn were made of the fen itself — reeds for hair, moss for skin — and asking why is like asking why the marsh is wet.

History

The Krynn awoke in eastern Sparenda at the beginning of the world and settled Sparenda and Banfarra during The Age of Colonization. They have lived in South Gondalavon ever since — not because they cannot leave, but because they see no argument for it; the fens are theirs, the hedges are old, and the rest of the world keeps demonstrating why the Krynn were right to stay home.

The defining event of Krynn history is the Weeping of Banfarra (~900 BDC), when a merchant's crystal cascaded and killed the town of Loskellen over nine days. From it came the Thornoath — the vow, passed parent to child for over two thousand years, to neither own nor use resonance crystals. It is why crystal use is restricted or outlawed across most of South Gondalavon, and why traditional Krynn regard being Silentborn as a blessing: an inborn immunity to the crystals' temptation.

The Krynn also carry an older, darker distinction: it was Krynn prisoners that the dragon Zorikal used in the experiments that created the Drakar in 2,172 BDC. The two peoples have long since made their peace, and Krynn communities thrive in Gondalia alongside the free Drakar.

Current Day

Most Krynn live traditionally in Sparenda and Banfarra. Those abroad — traders, herbalists, sailors out of Gondalia — are easy to spot and well regarded, though the sight of a Krynn walking wide around a crystal lamp post still marks the traditionalists. Not all modern Krynn keep the Thornoath, and the argument between the keepers and the lapsed is the liveliest debate in Krynn life.
